Our Prep Department is for children aged 7 to 11 years old in Year 3 to Year 6.  Situated in a beautiful rural hamlet with its own field, our Prep Department is set in a former farmhouse. The school day looks a little different compared to the Pre-Prep Department). Children have their own form tutor who is responsible for the well being and pastoral care of the pupils in their class. Children go to different classes for different lessons allowing them to be taught by specialist teachers who are passionate about their subject. This helps children develop their independence as well as preparing them for the structure of secondary school.

We plan a broad and balanced curriculum based on the national curriculum so that learning is an enjoyable, exciting and challenging experience. We provide an inclusive education within a culture of high expectations.

The School Day

Children need to be in school by 8.45 a.m. for the morning bell. There is a morning break for 15 minutes, and an hour for lunch. The school day finishes at 3.30 p.m., with the option most days for children to attend an after school club that runs until 4.30 p.m. or be transfered to the infant site for after school care until 6 p.m.

Clubs

A wide range of lunch time and after school clubs are available throughout the year, from Japanese to construction club, archery to choir, there is something for everyone.

Competitive Sports

Sport is important at Bryony School, and throughout the year we take part in our local Mini Youth Games and other inter-school competitions with a good record of success.

Residential and Trips

A three or five day residential is offered to all pupils in Years 5 and 6. This is an adventure based break where pupils get to experience a range of activities such as abseiling, fencing, raft building and rock climbing.

Bryony is proud to attend Young Voices each year, the largest children’s choir concert in the world, at the O2 arena in London.

Day trips are arranged and visitors into the school throughout the year and used to support and extend the learning in the classroom.

Junior Homework Timetable

In the Junior department, homework is consistently set throughout the term. One subject per evening is set through the week, as well as an expectation for children to read at least five times per week. Children are also expected to use our online learning resources such as  Spelling Shed to practise their weekly spellings, improve their maths skills on Maths Shed and practise their Spanish language skills on Language Angels.

Before and After School Care

Wrap around care is available from 8 a.m. until 6pm daily.
